Sunday, August 4th, part 2: Services in Kpalime

After morning services, we made a brief stop at the motel to change and collect our luggage.  We also stopped at Emmanual's house before heading to Kpalime.  Here, Dad and Tero visit in front of Emmanual's house in Lome.

We then traveled to Kpalime.  I know we did a lot of traveling in the van, but I generally didn't pay too much attention to how long our journeys were.  Thankfully, I absolutely love road trips, thanks to years of driving up to Saskatchewan and back to visit my grandparents and other relatives.  It also helped that there was much more to see out the windows... (sorry, North Dakota, I do love your beauty, but it's much more predictable than what one might see out the window in Togo...)

Tero greets you all in front of our motel for the night.  This is in Kpalime.
Dad:  "My wife always says my pictures never have any people in them!  Please go stand there for me!"
Thankfully Tero was a willing participant!

The quiet street outside our hotel.  I love all the trees!

The hotel lobby

We had a bit of time before services, so we took a short stroll down the main street to check out the sights.  I was always intrigued by this building process - bamboo poles are used to support the upper floor as it sets.

A motorbike wash.  It seemed like the Togo people keep their vehicles very clean.

I believe this store is selling second hand clothes - the local thrift store.

The lumber yard.

A friendly villager was willing to let me take her picture as she passed by.

It's a beautiful place!

In Kpalime, this room is part of Sheriff's (pronounced Sheh-reef) home and where they have been holding their services.  Tero is here serving us and Sheriff is translating.

The frogs (or are they crickets, I never know for sure..) were loudly singing outside, the fan was keeping the warm humid air moving.  It was a small but friendly crowd.  Once again, it felt good to be here.

The congregation

We were grateful for modern technology when the power went out.. it was easy to continue reading from the tablet.

Dad is videoing greetings to bring back to friends Wendy and Kofi back in America.

I visited with Sheriff's wife Akpene, Marco, Adjo and Atsou after services.

After services, we went for supper.  We enjoyed the Beef, Fries, Rice, and Cooked Veggies.
